77Klash
If you could imagine legendary dancehall party Passa Passa next to a LES cool kid den, around the corner from gritty Brooklyn house party you might have a small idea of
what 77 Klash is.
77Klash’s credits as an artist and producer are wide and varied. Klash recently produced Turbulence’s biggest tune “Notorious”. The tune would top the many different charts in different regions, from Jamaica’s Xnews magazine to Spin Magazine, from Irie fm to BBC 1Xtra, XL Records “Serious Times” to VP’s “Striclty the Best” compilation.
Klash excels as an artist as well, with tunes that combined dancehall, grime and hardcore Brooklyn
Hip-Hop, such as the banger “Brooklyn Anthem”. The track has been featured in the top selling video game John Madden Football. The video game feature showcases the song and has helped it gained
mainstream notoriety while “Brooklyn Anthem” continues to live up to it’s name as it has quickly become smash sensation among West Indian Brooklyn kids through local dance parties and YouTube clips. Code for the Streets, his EP, beckons all of 77Klash’s influences as well as the directions he is taking them. The track “Mad Again”, featuring reggae legend Johnny Osbourne, combines roots reggae with hardcore dancehall. Code for the Streets combines punk rock with hardcore hip hop and everything in between. Singer Jah Dan is featured twice on the EP and the two show great chemistry in the traditional Jamaican rhythm and melody combination. “Yes Shotta”, produced by Disco D of Federation Sound, combines dancehall and hip hop with with an hardcore electro gangster swagger.
Klash has performed at the trendsetting SXSW and WMC festivals. He has maintained the standard he set “Notorious” in Jamaica with the “Swarm Riddim” producing for big artists such as Lutan Fyah, Vybez
Kartel, Jah Mason and Adonia as well as American acts such as Noble Society. 77Klash has recently been featured in The Fader magazine, XLR8R, and on rcrdlbl.com. Rooted in the past, heading to the
future, 77Klash’s time has come as music looks for new heroes, and Code for the Streets is a small potent taste of what is coming up.
